In 1893, the German pharmacist Heinrich Rothdauscher (1851–1937) donated a total of 112 objects to the Royal Ethnographic Collection in Munich, which he had acquired during his stay from 1873 to 1883 in the Philippines. These are sensitive cult and ritual objects, as well as everyday items, which are now preserved in the Museum Fünf Kontinente. In close cooperation with the communities of origin and Filipino scientists, the project has threefold objectives: firstly, to investigate the colonial contexts in which the objects were acquired; secondly, to make key sources on the acquisition situations available in the form of a digital text edition; and thirdly, to complete photographic documentation of the objects, and 3D scans of selected pieces.
